WHATS YOUR RESPONSE TO THE N-WORD IN THIS BOOK? SOME ARGUE THAT IS NECCESARY TO MAINTAIN HISTORICAL REALISM,WHILE OTHERS ARGUE THAT IT'S DEMEANING AND UNNECESSARY.WHAT'S YOUR RESPONSE? ALSO HOW SHOULD OUR CLASS DEAL WITH THIS WORD,SINCE IT'S USED THROUGHOUT THE BOOK AND WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THE BOOK?
MY RESPONSE TO THE N-WORD IS THAT MANY YEARS AGO THE N-WORD DID REPRESENT HISTORICAN REALISM, THE N-WORD ALSO REPRESENTED THEIR SOCIAL CLASS....BUT NOT RIGHT NOW IN THIS NEW ERA BECAUSE AFRICAN-AMERICANS ARE NOW TREATED WITH MORE RESPECT,,,,ESPECIALLY NOW THAT WE HAVE AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN PRESIDENT.
MANY PEOPLE MAY DISAGREE WITH ME BUT THAT IS WHAT I THINK OF THE N-WORD.
WE SHOULD DEAL WITH THE N-WORD JUST FINE,,, BECAUSE NOBODY IN THE CLASS IS GOING TO GET OFFENDED WITH IT...PLUS WE DONT HAVE ANY AFRICAN-AMERICANS IN OUR CLASS THAT MIGHT GET OFFENDED WITH THE USE OF THE N-WORD...BUT JUST TO MAKE SURE WE SHOULD EDIT THE N-WORD.

well even though african americas are treated with more respect thatn they used to they are the ones that use the word the most. for example in the rap songs i think that at least 80% of every song that an african american sing they have to mention the n word and its like nothing to them but when a person from another race says it they are ready to go to war like soldiers. i think that you can write more on to why you disagree on why he shouldnt have put the word in his book and how would it have changed the book for the better.
ReplyDeleteI dont agree with you on your thought of censoring the n word in the book because that is not the way Mark twain wrote so we would be getting a different message if we censored his writing
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is offensive, but it is a time piece from that era and twain thought it was needed to make the story real. If you’re against the word however I suggest you include examples of how it is offensive and how you think the book would be different or better without it.
ReplyDeleteI agree how the word is very offensive to a lot of people. Although times have changed and people have become more accepting i still think there is a lot of negative around the word.
ReplyDeleteI think Twain put it in his book for a reason, to make a point and it would be a lot different if the book didn't have the word in it.
I'm with you!!!
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the use of the word was unnecessary. I believe that it could have been mentioned maybe just a couple time but not all through out the book. TOO MUCH??? Well maybe to support your thesis you can add more about how it affects the African Americans and how they don't like being called like this if its from a different race they are.
i disagree with you of edit the N-word out of the book that Mark Twain that's not how he would write and he also try to tell the story as it is and be different with other writers.
ReplyDeletebut yeah its freedom of speech right. you right with African American that isn't in our class :). but the thing is like what sotelrigo said they self use the word more than we do in there songs and daily lives.
I don't think the use of the N word was necessary, i think that the author of the book tried to make his book more intersting and that's why he used the word N to cause controversy. This doesn't mean that the author is racist, but he looks like one when he uses this word.
